Teaching Your Children the Word

bibleI wanted to talk about being intentional with your children in their spiritual lives during this series.   If we want our children to grow up knowing God we need to be intentional with our faith!

I thought Sunday would be a great day to do these posts for so the next four Sunday’s will cover a different spiritual topic!

Today is teaching your children the Word.  If you are a Christian this should be SO important to you and by teaching your children about God’s Word you will intentional in teaching your children your faith!

Deuteronomy 6:6-8

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead

I know there are many devotionals out there and some are VERY good! However I want to challenge you to do a little something different in these next couple of days!

I want you to just READ the Word!  Just read it out loud, EVERY DAY, or if this is new to you start reading a few days a week!  You can read it at the family table, at bedtime or in the middle of the day!  Whenever works for your family the best!  You will be amazed how your children will get into the stories if you keep reading it.  Much of the Old Testament has the most exciting stories I have ever read!  It is lie that bible reading is boring; the culture has done a great job convincing us of that, even us adults!

Another way to be intentional in the Word is to memorize together, I wrote about that here!

Once you are reading the Word regularly feel free to dive into some great books to enhance your reading!

I’ve recently set a goal to read the bible out loud while my children are eating breakfast. I think it’s important that we take every chance we have to talk to our children about God’s Word. 🙂
